PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES (INTERNSHIPS):

  • Education majors can be placed in a variety of classroom settings: those students interested primarily in elementary and/or secondary education can be placed as teaching assistants in English language classrooms or local Segovian High Schools or Primary Schools. These students can work with the faculty member on lesson planning, help with specific classroom activities, teach portions of classes, in addition to the valuable experience of general classroom observation. These students can also conduct tutoring sessions for the Spanish students studying English. Students with a high level of proficiency in Spanish can also assist Center faculty in their classes in a variety of ways depending on the class.
  • Communications or Journalism students can be placed according to the medium in which they have the greatest interest: Radio Segovia, where students can observe first hand and participate in the operations of one of Segovia's radio stations; TeleSegovia, for students interested in television journalism and broadcasting; El Adelantado de Segovia and El Norte de Castilla, the two principal local newspapers for those students interested primarily in print journalism and newspaper decision-making and management.
  • Students of Pre-Med, Nursing, Psychology, Psychiatry and Physical Therapy can be placed in the various facilities of the Department of Health and Social Services in Segovia.
  • Art and Art History majors can be placed in the Museo de Esteban Vicente, Segovia's museum of contemporary art named after the Segovian artist who became famous in New York as part of the Abstract Expressionist movement, and who donated his works to the museum. Students can learn about curating exhibitions, museum management, participate in museum meetings, and the work of brain-storming and planning for future exhibitions.
  • Students of Social Work can be placed to shadow Spanish social workers-in this way students can observe first hand the kind and nature of this work in a uniquely Spanish context.
  • Physical Education majors can also be placed as assistants in provincial programs organized and directed by the Junta de Castilla y León.

  • Day Care Center for those interested in working with children.
